Word Identification-Acronyms

There are a lot of different types of students with varying study habits.  Each person has his own way of learning about different topics that he is faced with.  There are those who are good with memorization, and there are those who have trouble with it.  In order to be able to recall certain items easily, you’re going to need to have an improved way of memorizing them.  One simple way to make sure you don’t forget about a number of items and their order is by using word identification acronyms.

How to Use Word Identification Acronyms

Word identification acronyms are basically a collection of the first letters of the items you need to memorize.  First, you need to write down the items you need to remember.  Next, take the first letters of each item and form a word if possible that can be easily remembered.  If you somehow cannot find a possible combination that would turn out into a word, then you can still arrange them in a fashion that you are sure to remember.  For example, there are already a lot of people who have taken advantage of using acronyms in various subjects.  Take math for example.  To remember the proper way of taking action in equations, you need to do things in the right order – parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction, or PEMDAS for short.  Another good example is the IPMAT, which is the stages of cell division – Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telephase.

Using Acrostics

Acrostics are somewhat similar to word identification acronyms, except that they pretty much form a sentence.  This can be more efficient in letting you recall things since you can easily personalize them.  Take IPMAT for example.  You can state it as ‘I’ll Probably Meet Anna Tomorrow’.  It not only lets you recall the items you need to memorize, it also helps you out in enumerating them chronologically.  You have to remember that the more personalized your acrostics are, the more likely you’ll be able to recall them with ease. If ever you’re struggling in your studies because of a poor memory, you definitely have to give acronyms a try.  It will surely make your life as a learner a breeze.  Studying is indeed a huge part of becoming a student.  Simply remember to dedicate some time studying and using this strategy, and you won’t have to experience problems memorizing a list of items.
